Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT KIND OF COWS DO YOU RAISE?

For over 17 years, we have raised moderate size Black Angus cows & calves. Our registered bulls are purchased based on their meat tenderness, grass efficiency, calving ease & good disposition. Our goal is to produce a finished product that meets the customer's highest expectation. Customers can be confident that we are working towards a sustainable product that will help ease the impact to our pastures & environment. We provide real time pictures & only the best animals from our herd are chosen for processing!

WHY DOES IT MATTER IF MY BEEF IS BORN, RAISED & PROCESSED IN AMERICA?

Because over 85% of grass-fed beef is imported from overseas. This hurts the quality of meat you eat and the quality of life for American farmers. Buying from independent farmers in the USA lets you Do Good & Eat Good at the same time.

DO YOU SHIP TO MY STATE?

We are currently shipping to all of Arkansas and parts of Oklahoma, Kansas & Missouri

HOW WILL MY FROZEN BEEF BE SHIPPED?

Your order will arrive in a Illinois River Beef box, safely packaged in heavy insulation. Your box will be packed with dry ice to ensure it stays frozen. In the event that your beef gets delayed in transit or has any issues we will stand by our promise guarantee.

HOW WILL MY BEEF BE PACKAGED?

Every select cut & roast is individually vacuum sealed and frozen & our ground meat is packaged and frozen in one pound plastic tubes by our expert butchers.

HOW MUCH FREEZER SPACE WILL I NEED FOR MY BULK BEEF OR SUBSCRIPTION ORDER?

Subscription & Mini Beef Shares: This bundle will easily fit in a standard fridge- freezer.

1/8 Beef Share: This bundle will easily fit in a standard fridge-freezer. A 2 cubic foot freezer would be plenty for this bundle.

1/4 Beef Share: We recommend approx. 3-4 cubic ft. of freezer space for our quarter beef boxes.

1/2 Beef Share: We recommend approx. 6-8 cubic ft. of freezer space for our half beef boxes.

Whole Beef Share: We recommend approx. 12-16 cubic ft. of freezer space for our whole beef boxes.

HOW IS THE BEEF PROCESSED?

In 2021, Illinois River Beef has partnered with Seven Oaks Meat Processing to process all of our beef. Located in Sallisaw, Ok, Seven Oaks offers a USDA farm to table experience for their customers. All animals and meat are USDA Certified and Seven Oaks has a great reputation for treating their animals humanly during processing.

WHAT DO YOUR BEEF EAT? DO THEY EAT GRASS & GRAIN?

Yes! Our cattle are 100% grass-fed until they are chosen for sale and then we add a rationed portion of grain to their diet.  During the growing season (roughly April-November) they eat fresh grass, and during the winter months we feed them high quality wet-wrapped hay we cut ourselves from our farms. They spend their entire lives outside on pasture eating as much grass as they want even after we incorporate the additional grain. The finished product is a grass-fed, grass-grain finished animal.

DO YOU OFFER 100% GRASS FED BEEF TOO?

Yes! We offer both finished options! Our cattle are 100% grass-fed.  During the growing season (roughly April-November) they eat fresh grass, and during the winter months we feed them high quality wet-wrapped hay we cut ourselves from our farms. They spend their entire lives outside on pasture eating as much grass as they want & no grain is ever offered to them. The finished product is a grass-fed, grass-finished animal.

ARE YOUR CATTLE ANTIBIOTIC AND ADDED HORMONE FREE?

We seek to be caring stewards of our animals and we believe in doing things as naturally as we are able. We do this by using no added hormones or unnecessary antibiotics. In very rare and critical situations, our cattle may be given antibiotics, but that is only if that animals health and wellbeing is at risk. (To emphasize how rare this is, ALL of the cattle sold as beef thus far in 2023 as well as our current animals chosen for sale have been 100% antibiotic free)
